Road Hazard Protection background

Prorated Road Hazard Protection

Road Hazard Coverage: Limitations & Exclusions

Prorated Road Hazard Protection is a key benefit of our Total Protection Package, providing credit toward a replacement tire if damage from a road hazard (e.g., potholes, nails, debris) makes repair unsafe or impossible. However, to ensure fair and sustainable coverage, the following limitations and exclusions apply. All claims are subject to inspection and approval by Tires On The Run.

General Limitations Coverage Duration:

Prorated road hazard protection is valid for 60 months from the original purchase date or until the tire reaches the minimum remaining tread depth (whichever comes first). No credit is available if the tire is below the applicable minimum at the time of claim.

Proration Calculation:

Credit is based on remaining usable tread depth as a percentage of the original tread depth, multiplied by the original purchase price of the tire (less any discounts or promotions). Mounting, balancing, taxes, disposal fees, and any additional services are not included in the credit.

Vehicle Types:

Coverage applies only to non-commercial passenger cars, SUVs, crossovers, and light trucks with wheel diameters of 24" or less. Commercial vehicles, fleet use, taxis, delivery services, off-road applications, heavy-duty trucks, or any vehicle used primarily for business purposes are excluded.

Tire Types:

Applies to standard passenger and light truck tires only. Excludes specialty tires such as competition/racing tires, mud-terrain tires, off-road tires, or any tires not intended for highway use.

Claim Requirements:

Original invoice/receipt required (we can look up purchase details if needed). Tires must have been properly maintained, including regular rotations (every 6,000–8,000 km or as recommended), correct inflation, and alignment as needed. Proof of maintenance may be requested.

What Is Not Covered (Exclusions):

Damage from misuse, abuse, negligence, overloading, improper inflation, mechanical vehicle issues (e.g., misalignment, worn suspension), or improper installation/repair.

Off-road use, racing, competition driving, use with tire chains, or exposure to chemicals/corrosives.

Sidewall damage, cosmetic damage, vandalism, collision, fire, theft, or intentional damage.

Irregular, rapid, or uneven wear due to lack of maintenance or vehicle issues.

Tires already worn below the legal minimum tread depth (2/32" in most cases) at the time of damage.

Tires that have rubber degradation to the point of being unsafe.

Damage occurring while the tire was mounted on a vehicle not matching the original equipment specifications.

Special Provision for Winter Tires and All-Weather Tires

To promote safer winter driving in line with Transport Canada recommendations (which advise against using tires with tread less than 5/32" in winter conditions), we apply the following adjustment:

For dedicated winter tires or all-weather tires (those marked with the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol or designated for winter use) during the winter season October 1 to March 15 the minimum remaining tread depth for road hazard eligibility is 5/32". If remaining tread is below 5/32" during this period, no prorated credit will be issued, even if the tire is otherwise eligible.

Outside this date range (or for non-winter/all-weather tires), the standard minimum of 2/32" applies.

Tires On The Run reserves the sole and final discretion to determine eligibility for any claim under this coverage. All decisions are final and binding, with no further recourse available.

Note: This is a limited protection package offered by Tires On The Run, not an insurance policy. Coverage is discretionary based on inspection. We reserve the right to modify terms. For questions or to file a claim, contact us at 403-472-4246 or visit us!
